Mrs. Hannah Hassler

Hello,

I'm Mrs. Hassler, a 7th grade teacher her at Byrd Middle School!

I teach English and Reading Lab in Room 301B, and I love incorporating my love of youth with my passion for English on a daily basis.

As a native-Minnesotan who is now a Texas transplant, I find I am still adjusting to the brutal summers, but I love Duncanville and I am so glad to be here. I live in the community with my husband and two dogs, and in my spare time I love to read, walk, and spend time with friends and family. I'm also working on a set of short stories that I hope to one day publish - reading and writing are truly a part of my daily life!

I look forward to getting to know your children throughout the upcoming semester, and I hope to get to know parents as well.

Please feel free to call, e-mail, or drop by at any time!

  • Essay - Loyalty

Posted by Hannah Hassler on 10/30/2017
    Hello Parents & Students,

This week we fully launched into the writing process!

Last week we read a short story connected to our prompt, and we started discussing our thoughts and opinions on the subject (loyalty), and what examples we might be able to use in an essay of our own.

Copy/paste the link below to hear an audio version of the story we read in class:

The acronym used in class to HELP us think about things we could use as examples is here:
H – History (real life events from the past)
    E – Experience (personal experience)
    L – Literature (things you’ve read)
P – Pop Culture (current events)

The prompt we are using is:
Write an essay explaining whether or not you should always expect a friend to be loyal.

If you want to hear a little more about the prompt we are writing to and the graphic organizer we used, copy/paste the link below to watch the 10 minute video:

Your student needs to walk into class with a complete graphic organizer (their first draft!) tomorrow. I hope this email is a helpful tool for helping your student with the writing process!
