"Knowledge is not powerful, but the application of knowledge is." - Commissioner Andy Nguyen, Tarrant County, Precinct 2.

I was born in Dong Nai, Vietnam.  In 1990, my mother, older sister, younger brother and I fled by land and water to begin the freedom seeking journey and to reconcile with my other family members, my dad, oldest sister, and brother, in Thailand.  We stayed at the refugee camp for about six and a half years in Sikiew, Thailand.  After being deported back to Vietnam in 1996 by the Orderly Repatriation Program, our freedom-seeking journey finally came true and eventually brought us to the United States in 1998 by the Resettlement Opportunity for Vietnamese Returnees (ROVR) program.  My family resided in Arlington, TX.  Everything was a challenge at the beginning from learning a new language, adapting to the new culture, and playing catch-up with school, I learned to love my new home and thankful for able to live this American dream.

After high school, I enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington, majored in Chemistry.  I earned my Chemistry degree in 2007, I started teaching at Grand Prairie High School as a Chemistry teacher while serving the community and church.  A year later, I traveled to Vietnam and explored the streets of Vietnam for about a year and a half.  While in Vietnam, I taught for a year at the American Pacific University.  Seeing how vital education is in the preparation for young people to achieve success in all endeavors set before them, I hope to continue to instill a love of learning and a desire for constant knowledge within the young people.  My dreams are that every kid will be given the opportunity to go to school, and to inspire every kid with the love to discover the hidden beauty of mathematics of the universe.  Nelson Mandela has stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

I finished my second bachelor in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013.  I hope to finish my Ph.D. in the near future.

This is my 4th year at Duncanville High School. I’m currently teaching Algebra I, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus AB. My hobbies are building Legos, reading in my spare time, backpacking to explore the world, and write about the people I have met and the experiences I have encountered.
