Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to English II class! I am looking forward to a rewarding and productive school year.  While I am your child’s teacher, I am only one part of your child’s academic future.  Parent encouragement and involvement along with student cooperation and participation are vital components of educational growth.  I encourage you and your child to join me on this academic endeavor.  I truly love to teach and strive for all to become life-long learners.

I, however, look forward to getting to know you and your child; working together to help your child succeed! As parents and guardians, I understand that you are the most important teachers in your child’s life and it is with that understanding that I appreciate the role that you and I each play in the partnership to your child achieving the goals set forth for him or her. I have written an introduction letter to your child about myself but I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief overview as well. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education English and a Masters in Educational Supervision and Administration from Prairie View A&M University and a Masters in Business Administration from Texas A&M University. I have a wide variety of experience with over seventeen years of teaching and administration experience. I have taught both 10th grade academic, PreAP and 11th grade AP & GT, certified in secondary English grades 6-12 and GT. I have supervised on all levels including public, private and collegiate. I feel so blessed to have been recognized with these few accomplishments as well as to work with the best of the best at Duncanville High School!

As for our academic growth this year, we will follow the District and State Standards.  All TEKS (grade level expectations) and standards will be the focus of our instruction.  These standards can be found on the Texas Education Agency as well as our district’s website.  Students are expected, to be prepared daily; bringing all necessary supplies and assignments.  Students will be informed each Monday, of that week planned assignments, expectations, and due dates.  This information will be posted on my class Black Board.  We will also be looking for real world application of English in our environment including projects to enrich our academic experience.  Please inform me of any ideas or suggestions you would like to have considered.  I am confident that your child will have a rewarding experience at Duncanville High!
