    March 2018 Made With Pride In Duncanville Honorees


     Kat Franco (Bilingual teacher) Hyman Elementary nominated by Kate Lagemann

    • Hyman's PTA had seen a reduction in participation and few activities for a period of time
    • This year, Ms. Franco has mentored and helped out the new PTA president.
    • She is the voice of our school at these meetings.
    • She helps the PTA carry out all of the amazing activities that they have.
    • Franco has helped planned and carry out:
      • pizza day for national pizza day
      • a father daughter dance
      • an online fundraising campaign
      • she is in charge of rewarding the teachers with a week of meals from this fundraiser
      • also helped plan a mother son dance.
    • She is tirelessly working for our students and to make our parent and teacher communication better.



    Tristen Taylor (7th grade student and basketball athlete) Byrd Middle School nominated by Christa Morley

    • Tristen is a student-athlete.
    • She is a 7th grader who is playing on the 8th grade girls basketball A-team.
    • She is a starter and co-captain of the team.
    • Her coach described her determination, hard work and leadership as invaluable this season.
    • Always leading by example, Tristen is one of the hardest working athletes on and off the court.
    • Her work ethic transfers to the classroom.
    • She has maintained her status on the A honor roll, balancing athletics with her Pre-AP classes.



     Tiffany Waites (Nurse’s Aide) Hastings Elementary nominated by Rachel Hix

    • Waites has taken a leadership role when it comes to Hastings clinic.
    • The school year started without a nurse. Ms. Waites went above and beyond and took charge of the health services needs in the school.
    • She assisted with Haring and Vision Screenings for all of the students on campus.
    • Hix mentioned in her nomination: One day, I saw Ms. Waites walking out with a plastic bag full of clothes. I inquired about it, and she told me that she had been taking home a student’s soiled clothes and washing them for him throughout the week.
    • She obviously has a giving spirit and really cares for our kids. You could not ask for more!
