Parent Survey - Technology & Learning (BrightBytes)
We are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, in order to learn more about our students’ school and home technology use for learning. We are reaching out to ask you to take part in the Technology & Learning questionnaire. The questionnaire should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Your participation is essential in helping us form a more complete picture of technology use for learning in your students’ lives. Please know that all of your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy. The last day to complete the questionnaire is midnight on Tuesday, December 19th.

Tanji Towels, principal of Merrifield Elementary School, began her career as a teacher in Richardson ISD. During that tenure, she was selected as Teacher of the Year, Assistant Principal Mentor and was nominated to participate in the Educational Administration Leadership Program for top-performing teachers. This honor provided Towels with an opportunity to attend University of Texas at Arlington, where she obtained her master’s degree.
In hopes of making a larger impact on the student community in RISD, Towels was promoted to assistant principal. Thereafter, Mrs. Towels served as an elementary principal in opening a new school in Manor ISD; she also led a successful school turnaround in Irving ISD.
"This will mark my eighteenth year in education," Mrs. Towels said. "I have served as a Principal for ten years, Assistant Principal for four years, and classroom teacher. My goal for our students of Merrifield Elementary is to ensure that each child is afforded the best educational opportunity, innovative learning experiences and challenging explorations, which will prepare them to be outstanding scholars and citizens of the Duncanville community.”
Merrifield Elementary opened in 1962, with additions in 1963, 1968 and 1980 and renovations in 2003 and 2004. The school was named for the Merrifield family, a pioneer family of southwest Dallas County. The school serves grades PK-4.
Merrifield Elementary is named for the Merrifields, a pioneer family from the late 1800s who owned and farmed the land on which the school was built. Several members of the Merrifield family served on the school board in early years, and the family also donated the land for the original brick building that is now Central Elementary.
