Mrs. Daneen Douglas
Welcome to 3rd grade!
My name is Daneen Douglas and I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Northern Arizona University and have been teaching since 2001. My family and I moved to Texas and I first became a part of the Acton Family for the 2009-2010 school year. I am proud to call Acton Elementary my home. This will be my 10th year teaching at Acton. I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year with your child.
My goal is to encourage your child to realize and reach his or her full potential as both a student and as a young person. This year I will work with your child to learn the academic skills necessary, as well as develop other skills such as; leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. These skills are just as important in today’s dynamic world.
I am confident that the 2018-2019 school year is going to be productive, exciting, challenging, and filled with numerous opportunities for your student to explore, problem solve, and be engaged in their learning experiences. Let’s partner with one another to help your child have the most successful year possible.
Parents, please check your student's folder nightly for any important notes, fliers, or other important information.
Each week, starting with the 4th week of school, your child will be expected to read 20 minutes each night (Mon- Thurs.) Students will record the book, author and pages read. The reading log will be checked each Friday.
Also, your student will track math progress on a Think Through Math log throughout the year as we set goals each 9 weeks for number of lessons to work through. Class and grade level incentives will be given for reaching goals.
A spelling list will be sent home weekly, but no homework will be assigned, nor spelling tests given on Fridays. Instead, students will practice and be assessed on the weekly spelling patterns in class in their writing and through conventions assessments. If you would like to practice these words at home, you may feel free to do so. Spelling City is a great online resource to practice spelling in a fun way. The weekly spelling lists will be accessible on Spelling City. The link is https://www.spellingcity.com/users/dadouglas .
Parents, please sign both the reading and math log each night!
We adhere to CHAMPS procedures and expectations in the classroom and in different school settings. 3rd grade uses Class Dojo to monitor behavior, homework, and parent communication.
