Mrs. Jessica Shogreen M.Ed
My name is Jessica Shogreen and I am a 2nd grade teacher at Acton Elementary and the Acton PTA Fundraiser Chair. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Art, Bachelor’s Degrees in Government, English and Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Education with a minor in Special Education. My post-grad work focused on Child Development. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 4th grades throughout my career. I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy creating a solid curriculum for the enrichment and benefit of students. My primary motivation is to create a love of learning in all students. I am excited to share this new 2018-2019 school year with you in the NEW Acton Elementary campus!
ClassTag - Please download the "ClassTag" app for your Smartphone. I will be using this app for both individual and whole group announcements throughout the year. Directions and more information to follow in your child's "Take Home" folder.
SpellingCity.com - SpellingCity.com is a great site for help, practice and games related to the current week's spelling word list. Please use this site to help your child practice their spelling words each week. Simply go to the site, "spellingcity.com/jshogreen" and pick the list for the week. They are organized by test date. Testing for spelling lists is each Friday, unless it is a shortened week on the DISD calendar.

It is hard to believe but it is school time again!!! I am thrilled to have your child in my classroom this year. I have the belief that by working together we will make this a very successful school year. It is very important that you play an active role in your child’s education.
I invite you to call, email or visit with me by scheduling a conference, during the conference hours of 10:30-11:00am.
Beginning next week, students will begin receiving homework. Monday-Thursday, students are expected to read at least 15 minutes per night (grade level appropriate book), Book bags will also be sent home. In the students “Take Home” folders, students will also have a behavior log and a reading log, both which need to be signed by a parent/guardian each night and returned to school the following day. Graded work folders will go home weekly.
We have four basic classroom rules within our classroom. These are as follows:
Follow Directions the First Time Given Be Prepared With Supplies (Folders)
Work Quietly and Always Do Your Best
Keep Yourself and Your Objects to YOURSELF
You will be receive communication and notices in your child’s daily “Take Home” folder. Take Home” folders are a method of communication between parent and teacher and will contain classroom information, homework logs and completed student work.
Please keep in mind that in order to maximize instruction time, any birthday celebrations (i.e. cupcakes) will need at least a two day notice so that I have ample time to adjust our schedule and verify that there are no classroom allergies. You may email the date that you wish to bring a birthday treat and what that treat is. PLEASE NO SHEET CAKES. Cupcakes, individually wrapped treats or treat bags are great!
I consider it an honor and privilege to be your child’s teacher this year and look forward to meeting with each of you.
