Dear Acton Families,
As you know, our school facilities are closed until further notice due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition, Dallas County has issued a shelter-in-place order that starts Tuesday, March 24, 2020. The shelter-in-place order has limited exemptions for essential services, such as schools serving grab-and-go lunches as we are at four campuses. Even with our doors closed, we’re still here for you and have been developing tools for continuing to educate students.
Over the weekend, the district launched a Learning At Home website to offer digital learning tools for students in all grades, as well as some options for offline academic experiences for our students in Pre-K through 6th grade. As our teachers get settled into their new normal of teaching remotely, you will begin to hear more specifics for your student.
To support students with their Learning at Home, Duncanville ISD is asking families to complete a survey to determine if you have internet access, the reliability of service, number of students in the home, grade levels, types of devices you are currently using and more. Based on the survey information, we’ll best be able to identify where resources are most needed and provide support to our families. It starts with you clicking this link and taking the survey by the end of this week.
If your student is participating in the Big Kahuna fundraiser, please hold all funds collected and additional information will be forthcoming.
I recognize that you’ll need support as we co-teach students through this unique journey. As this health crisis continues to evolve, I believe that we can offer some stability for your family by keeping your student focused on their academic goals.
I know that you will have questions. As decisions are made and information is released, we will get that to you as quickly as possible. We are moving through a new way of teaching and learning and I appreciate your patience and grace. Finally, please tell your students that we miss them and look forward to seeing them when we're able to do so.

Charles C. Acton Elementary opened in 1978, with an addition in 1980 and renovations in 2003. The school was named for former superintendent Charles C. Acton (1945-1951). The school serves grades PK-4.
