• Visual Art

    Duncanville ISD Visual Arts offers students an outlet for creative expression, a foundation in historical and cultural awareness, and an exploration of a variety of mediums. The foundation of this program begins with an introductory art course from which students can continue in media specific directions throughout their educational experience.

    Middle School

    High School

    Students have the opportunity to expand their talent in by providing courses to specialize in a specific medium. Some courses offered on the high school level include:

    • Art 1 is a course that provides an introduction to art through a multi-media experience. Students will learn and apply the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to produce creative art projects that reflect their understanding of these concepts.
    • Art 2 students will expand on what they learned in art 1 as well as utilize the methods of art that show depth and distance. They will study many aspects of portraiture, analyzing the master’s works and using these concepts in their own work.
    • Art 3 the students will continue experimenting with different mediums, techniques, and artistic styles to produce work that begins to integrate a personal style. Students will continue to learn about master artists and be able to compare and contrast their works.
    • The AP Art and Design program consists of three different courses and AP Portfolio Exam-AP 2-D Art and Design, AP 3-D Art and Design, and AP Drawing-corresponding to college and university foundations courses.  Students create a portfolio to work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented.
    • AP Art History: Is an introductory college-level art history course. Students cultivate their understanding of art history through analyzing works of art and placing them in historical context as they explore concepts like culture and cultural interactions, theories and interpretations of art, the impact of materials, processes, and techniques on art and art making, and understanding purpose and audience in art historical analysis.
