Duncanville ISD Art Education provides an environment which encourages self-discovery and creativity by empowering every student with skills and confidence. By providing opportunities to explore and create, art education fosters the uniqueness of each student. Art education enables students to develop lifelong abilities to:
perceive subtle and complex connections in the visual world
formulate questions and answers through observations and interpretations of diverse cultures
solve problems and think critically through application of art concepts and skills
respond to everyday life in creative and imaginative ways
acquire academic knowledge necessary to develop art for personal and professional interests

Purpose for Visual Arts Education

By providing opportunities to explore, create, and evaluate artwork, art education fosters better-educated citizens who will value and support artistic and cultural achievements in an evolving society.

Incorporate art appreciation, history, criticism and production in the curriculum.
Encourage art literacy by referring to student creation as artwork, which includes ideas, processes and materials.
