Mrs. Daneen Douglas
Welcome to 3rd grade!
My name is Daneen Douglas and I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Northern Arizona University and have been teaching since 2001. My family and I moved to Texas and became part of the Acton Family for the 2009-2010 school year. I am proud to call Acton Elementary my home. This will be my 9th year teaching at this school. I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year with your child.
My goal is to encourage your child to realize and reach his or her full potential as both a student and as a young person. This year I will work with your child to learn the academic skills necessary, as well as develop other skills such as; leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. These skills are just as important in today’s dynamic world.
I am confident that the 2017-2018 school year is going to be productive, exciting, challenging, and filled with numerous opportunities for your student to explore, problem solve, and be engaged in their learning experiences. Let’s partner with one another to help your child have the most successful year possible.
On Monday a spelling list will go home to study throughout the week on Spelling City. The link is https://www.spellingcity.com/users/dadouglas . There are fun games and practice tests for your student. Your child will have homework Tuesday-Thursday. Tuesday through Thursday reading homework will be assigned. Reading homework will be due Friday morning for the week. Tuesday and Thursday, math will be assigned and math homework will be checked Wednesday and Friday. Also, a sight word list will be included in your child's folder. Your child will be tested on those words on the assigned days as stated on the list. The list will be updated each 9 weeks. Your child may have homework in other subjects occasionally, as needed. Please review your student’s planner daily and make sure your student is completing his/her homework. These assignments are vital to the success of your child. Now that your student is in 3rd grade, he/she is reading to learn instead of learning to read as in prior grades. However, your child would love for you to read with him/her. Not only will this help your child, it will create lasting memories for your child and quality time together. Please have him/her read the book to you. It is okay for you to model fluent reading for a page or two only. Please ask your student questions before, during, and after you read. Please do not allow your child to write or draw in the book. Your child will be assessed a fine if the books are lost or damaged. Please sign his or her reading log daily.
