PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN SERVICES SYLLABUS and INFORMATION SHEET
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!!!!
This laboratory course will enable students to investigate careers in the human services career
cluster including Counseling and Mental Health, Health Science, Early Childhood Development,
Family and Community, and Personal Care Services, Interior Design and Fashion Design. Each student is expected to complete the knowledge and skills essentials for success in high skill, high wage, or high demand human services careers.
The Career and Technical Student Organization associated with the class is Family.
Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). This Organization is available for all
POHS students. There will be an information meeting and information will be available for your
students. Local/State/National Dues apply. ($35 yearly, AND INCLUDES THE SHIRT)
✓ 1-inch HARD SIDED binder any color. Plastic sleeve on the front will allow students more

✓ Writing implements (pen/pencil)
✓ 1 Box of Tissue
✓ 1 Bottle of Hand Sanitizer (medium)
✓ Set of Earbuds or Earphones for Computer lab days✓
µ For the Clothing Repair Section: Small Sewing Kit and 3 pieces (more if they want a bigger project) of FELT (Can be found at Walmart)
✓ NOTE: throughout the year there also will be various projects where students might need to
purchase additional materials. EXAMPLES: poster board, Foam core board and any other project decorating items that they would like to use and a boiled egg for the baby project. Advance notice will be given before these materials will be needed.

Grades will be based on the FOLLOWING and will follow the DISTRICT grading guidelines of 60% minor grades
and 40% major grades.
60% Grades include, but are not limited to:
- Class Participation in all activities
- Portfolio (Binder Upkeep)
- Daily Assignments including Journaling, Partner work, Individual work etc.
- Completing ALL assignments to the best of the Student’s ability
- Making PROGRESS!!!!
40% Grades include, but are not limited to:
- Major Projects (There are MANY during this course)
- Unit Tests
- Required Papers
µ LATE WORK is ACCEPTED (NOT ENCOURAGED), BUT A PENALTY OF 5 POINTS PER CALENDAR DAY WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE GRADE THEY ACTUALLY MAKE ON THE ASSIGNMENT!!!!!!!

DEVICE) POLICY IN THIS CLASS. ONCE THESE RULES HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED, THERE WILL
BE NO USE OF THEIR DEVICES UNLESS SPECIFIC PERMISSION HAS BEEN GRANTED! I will
follow the District Policy to the letter!
