Board Business Meeting Summary - 03/26/20

The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees meets regularly to publicly address the business of the school district. Due to the district closure for the health and safety of our community regarding the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Board of Trustees hosted a special board meeting using a telephone conference call on Thursday, March 26, 2020. Decisions made during that meeting include the following:

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic progresses, it’s clear that we will be operating in this remote environment for an unknown period of time. The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees held a special board meeting last night and acknowledged the district’s need to make quick decisions during this time to keep up with the evolving situation. To make that possible, the board adopted a resolution authorizing the superintendent to make specified decisions for a designated period of time.

The majority of North Texas is under a shelter-in-place order restricting movement unless it’s for essential services. We are grateful for the district employees who have been doing their part with feeding children and disinfecting our facilities. If a non-exempt/hourly employee is required to work outside of their home during this emergency closure, that employee will receive premium pay or overtime.

To maintain social distancing and minimize the number of employees in school facilities, only select hourly employees will be required to work outside of the home. To do so, hourly employees must be pre-approved. Supervisors should submit requests to require an employee to work outside of the home to their appropriate Senior Leadership Team member and then that request is provided to the Human Resources Department.

As previously stated, all employees will continue to receive their regular pay.

Non-exempt/hourly employees, such as secretaries, clerks and instructional aides, who are able to work at home should do so if possible. Supervisors will not need to submit a request for hourly employees working in their home, but supervisors must track work hours so hourly employees do not exceed their regular work hours each week.

Exempt employees, such as teachers, counselors, librarians, specialists, coordinators and other professional staff, should maintain remote work hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Teaching and learning is going to look different and change is tough. So motivate those around you and encourage your students, parents and peers. Thank you for your kindness and patience. We’re in this together. #WeAreDville
