Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith began his report with the debut of the new activity buses at the Fourth of July parade. The community was able to see one of four buses purchased through the Penny Swap voters approved last year. In addition to the four activity buses, 10 traditional buses were purchased to replace older ones.
With the new school year soon approaching, Dr. Smith highlighted a few back to school activities for staff including a Camp Panther Leadership Retreat, New Teacher Induction, Convocation, and the first day of school.
Dr. Smith also announced that Acton, Alexander and Hastings elementary schools have been awarded School Action Fund Grants through the Texas Education Agency. Each of those campuses is expected to be provided with approximately $240,000 to support for initiatives and activities to further student success. Dr. Smith received the good news about the grant just days before the board meeting. There will be more information on the grant at a later date.
