Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Community members and business partners are encouraged to attend and participate. There is a public speaking section during every meeting that provides an opportunity for anyone to share positive feedback or concerns. However, the board is unable to take action on any item that is not already included on the meeting’s agenda.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive). A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, October 16, 2017, included:
“Made with Pride in Duncanville” Honorees Recognized
Julie Barron, Central Elementary School's Library Media Specialist, goes above and beyond her librarian duties to ensure teachers, students and parents are supported. She has organized parent workshops to help families better understand the online application process for free student lunches. Mrs. Barron also serves as the membership chairperson for the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and has successfully promoted partnerships with Central families. Mrs. Barron is respected by the Central community for her strong work ethic, leadership, professionalism and solution-seeking approach.
Naomi Franco is the principal’s secretary at Daniel Intermediate School. She supports Writing Success Stories through her efforts to serve teachers and administrators. Mrs. Franco believes every parent should have a positive interaction when they come into the office and strives to foster relationships with both families and the community. Mrs. Franco patiently explains and answers all questions with a smile on her face and concern in her voice.
Destiny Keaton, a sixth grader at Brandenburg Intermediate School, volunteers in the school office every morning and assists the staff with anything they need. She is also part of the media team and helps lead the campus morning announcements. Destiny greets staff with a friendly smile and a personal greeting. Destiny has gone to Duncanville ISD schools since kindergarten and Brandenburg Principal Ms. Thompson believes she is on the path to greatness.
Custodians Recognized During National Custodial Workers Day
Earlier this month we recognized a group of employees who quietly go about the business of their day. Because they are so good at their jobs, they do not always receive the recognition they deserve – the custodial staff.
We made a special effort to honor them on a national recognition day designated for just for them. October 2 is National Custodial Workers Day. Throughout the week campuses recognized the men and women who provide our students with a safe and clean place to learn.
Thank you to our custodial staff for helping us Write Success Stories, One Student at a Time.
