Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Community members and business partners are encouraged to attend and participate. There is a public speaking section during every meeting that provides an opportunity for anyone to share positive feedback or concerns. However, the board is unable to take action on any item that is not already included on the meeting’s agenda.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive). A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, November 27, 2017, included:
“Made with Pride in Duncanville” Honorees Recognized
Larry Moore, Brandenburg Intermediate School’s art teacher, is dedicated to teaching Brandenburg students and helping them excel. Mr. Moore, who has been in education for 38 years, graciously gives his time and talent to provide banners and murals for programs whenever he is asked, even if it’s last minute. He stays after hours and comes in on his days off to complete the beautiful banners. Mr. Moore generally spends between 10-30 hours completing the murals on top of his regular teaching duties. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Moore!
Joe McMillian is a special education aide at Hastings Elementary School. Mr. McMillian goes above and beyond on a daily basis. Every morning he greets students and parents at the crosswalk with a big smile. Throughout the day he counsels students, manages the cafeteria, helps teachers, drives a bus and completes any other task he is asked to do without hesitation. Mr. McMillian has such a huge heart for children that he started basketball and volleyball clubs for Hastings students. He stays after school and comes in on the weekends to work with students on not only their basketball and volleyball techniques, but also teaches them how to be an outstanding athlete off the court. Thanks for all you do, Mr. McMillian!
This is junior Faith Lemelle’s first year to attend Duncanville High School, but she is already doing big things on and off the basketball court. She was recently elected as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) president. Faith is doing a great job getting students interested in FCA and reaching out to others to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Recently, Faith brought in Vernon King, a 2009 DHS graduate, to give a motivational speech about leadership and stepping out of your comfort zone. Congratulations, Faith!
