Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Community members and business partners are encouraged to attend and participate. There is a public speaking section during every meeting that provides an opportunity for anyone to share positive feedback or concerns. However, the board is unable to take action on any item that is not already included on the meeting’s agenda.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive). A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, December 18, 2017, included:
“Made with Pride in Duncanville” Honorees Recognized
Darlene Taylor, a kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary School, goes above and beyond to help her students succeed. She is typically at Central before she is required to make sure her learning environment is ready for her students. Ms. Taylor has also created family engagement opportunities including International Food Night and African American Heritage celebrations for Central Elementary families.
Brenda Webb is a Curriculum and Instruction executive secretary at the Education Plaza. She is a team player and is always willing to assist in any way she can. Is she is unable to provide the needed assistance, she will find someone who can help resolve the issue. Ms. Webb has an amazing attitude and exhibits professionalism, accountability and communication (PAC) in all situations. If you’re having a difficult day, just call or stop by her desk and your day will be brightened.
Eddie Munoz, a fourth grader at Hastings Elementary School, transferred to Hastings after a hurricane impacted his family earlier this year. Since his arrival, Eddie has been a ray of sunshine. There is no one that he won’t talk to or help. Despite what could have been difficult circumstances, Eddie has shown what a wonderful personality he has, as well as his huge heart.
Eddie is partnered with a student who has special needs, and never once has he said he wouldn’t do it. He has embraced the fact that she is special and needs assistance. He is very caring and kind towards her and his classmates. Eddie is always making sure that his partner is understanding and staying on task while making sure that he is also doing what he should be doing.
New Director of Accounting Named
Lisa Miranda was announced as Duncanville ISD’s new Director of Accounting at Monday night’s Board Meeting. Miranda has served as a district accountant for the last three years, where she performs general accounting work related to the preparation, administration, control and analysis of the district’s financial resources.
Prior to joining Duncanville ISD in 2014, Miranda was a senior accountant at the Marlin Atlantis Group. Miranda received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland.
