Duncanville ISD Facilities Closed for Remainder of 2019-2020 School Year; Learning At Home Continues

As a result of today’s announcement by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Duncanville ISD facilities and offices will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The school district will continue distance learning through the Learning At Home system established for families over the past month.

Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith had previously made a decision to close school offices and facilities until further notice due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) health pandemic. That directive will now continue through the remainder of the academic school year.

“This decision was expected, but it’s still tough to officially announce that students and staff will not return to their traditional classrooms this school year,” said Dr. Smith.

While district facilities have been closed, staff created virtual classrooms, provided loaner laptops and distributed instructional packets to continue the teaching and learning process and comply with the shelter-at-home orders. In four weeks, we’ve also served more than 15,000 meals to children.

To our Class of 2020 seniors, we continue to evaluate all of the possibilities for graduation from a traditional ceremony to a virtual way of celebrating this once in a lifetime event. More information will be shared as we find solutions and a decision is finalized.
