Former Pantherette Takes the Helm of Historic Girls Basketball Program

A Pantherette has returned home to become the new head coach of the illustrious girls basketball program. At a special called Board of Trustees meeting today, LaJeanna Howard was named as the new Duncanville High School girls basketball head coach.

Coach Howard rejoins the Duncanville ISD family most recently from Dallas Lincoln High School, where this year she led the girls basketball team to the UIL state final four appearance. During the past three years as head coach at Lincoln High School, Coach Howard’s team won district and advanced to the playoffs each year. Most notably 100 percent of her seniors received scholarships, either through high academic achievement or athletics in her three years at Lincoln.

Prior to coaching in Dallas, Coach Howard had been a coach in Duncanville ISD for five years. She started here as the Reed Middle School head girls basketball coach, athletic coordinator, girls track coach and teacher. In 2014, she became an assistant varsity girls basketball coach with the Pantherettes and was a member of the 2016 UIL State Championship winning team. Coach Howard also won a state championship title as a Pantherette player in 2003.

“I believe all my coaching experience has prepared me for this opportunity,” Coach Howard said. “I can implement the hard work and dedication needed to ensure that our young ladies are well-rounded on and off the court. There is a tremendous group of kids in Duncanville, and I want to be part of their growth.”
