Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Meetings are held at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive.) A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, December 16, 2019 includes the following:
Board of Trustees Coat Drive and Panther Angel Tree Donate Gifts to Students
Duncanville ISD employees and community members donated more than 100 new coats and 150 gifts to students in need this holiday season.
The Board of Trustees second year of hosting a Student Coat Drive resulted in more than 100 new coat donations. Eighteen local business participated in the coat drive and lent their facilities to be drop-off locations.
Each year, district employees create a Panther Angel Tree to sponsor approximately 100 students in need from our 18 campuses. This year was extra special. Employees of Costco in Duncanville graciously asked to sponsor 50 additional students. As a result, 150 students will be receiving gifts such as toys and coats.
Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith began his report with Duncanville ISD’s website refresh that launched Dec. 11. The refresh was a result of valued community feedback requesting a cleaner website that is easier to navigate. This is the first stage of fulfilling theses needs – a completely new website with a new vendor will launch in summer 2020.
Dr. Smith recognized 37 Duncanville High School students in the Texas Association of Future Educators who are advancing to the State conference and competition.
For the second year in a row, the Duncanville High School Panther football team is going to the State Championship. Dr. Smith shared game information and wished the football team the best of luck. He highlighted the community and alumni coming together to support the Panthers.
Dr. Smith wrapped his Superintendent’s Report with a reminder that Friday is the last day before Winter Break. Staff will return Monday, Jan. 6 and students will return Wednesday, Jan 8.
