Duncanville ISD family,
I want to thank you for your patience as we’ve gathered the information necessary to provide technology devices for students as we prepare to begin class assignments next week. Since spring break, teachers have been connecting with students and I know they are excited to settle into our new process for distance learning. To support learning at home, we will provide devices in two deployments.
Initial Device Deployment
Next week the Technology Department will conduct an initial device deployment. In this first deployment, a priority was placed on students who must complete coursework that was previously scheduled online. Those students will be notified by email and phone calls this week. In the notification message, the selected students will be provided directions on registering to receive a district-issued device.
In this first round, we’ll provide approximately 600 Chromebooks to high school students who do not have access to technology and are taking college courses, currently participating in online credit classes and/or undergoing credit recovery.
Second Device Deployment
In the next two weeks, the district will conduct a second device deployment for a larger number of students. Approximately 2,000 Chromebooks will be distributed. Based on information collected in the district technology survey, priority will be given to students in STAAR-tested grade levels. You will be notified by the Technology Department if you qualify and be provided directions on how to register.
Alternative to Technology
Unfortunately, at this time, we will not be able to provide devices for all of our families. Just like several school districts across the nation, we started collecting and purchasing technology devices as soon as we knew there would be a transition to distance learning for an extended period of time. For our families who are unable to receive a technology device, the district is finalizing alternatives such as work study packets. In the coming days, I’ll share more information with you regarding packets and the distribution process.
Our educators have been working diligently in very challenging circumstances to meet the learning needs of our students. Thank you for your patience and partnership as we find solutions. We will get through this together.
