Board of Trustees
Duncanville's School Board's Roles and Responsibilities
Providing local citizen governance and oversight of education is the primary function of a Board of Trustees. The state and local communities, through the school board, share decision making duties about curriculum and policy. Our school board has significant leeway in cultivating educational programs for the district's schools within the framework of state and federal law, State Board of Education, and commissioner of education rules. After the state makes statewide decisions, the school board makes decisions best for the local community. Working with the superintendent, the board governs and makes decisions about:
- Adopting goals and priorities and monitoring success
- Adopting policies and reviewing for effectiveness
- Hiring and evaluating the superintendent
- Adopting a budget and setting a tax rate
- Communicating with the community
