Welcome to your go-to resource for understanding Phase 2 of Duncanville ISD’s Future Facilities Plan. Building on the foundation established in Phase 1, Phase 2 focuses on repurposing and preparing district facilities for the 2026–2027 school year in ways that better serve students, families, and staff.

This phase reflects intentional decisions to align facilities with instructional needs, expand early learning opportunities, strengthen specialized programming, and improve operational efficiency—while minimizing disruption and maximizing impact.

What’s Changing in Phase 2?

Campus Reconfiguration & Repurposing
Select campuses will be repurposed to support early learning, fine arts, alternative education, virtual learning, and centralized student and family services.

Campus Renovations
Facilities will be updated and enhanced to ensure learning environments are modern, safe, and aligned to their new or expanded purposes.

Campus Rezoning
Attendance boundaries will be adjusted to support feeder patterns, balance enrollment, and improve long-term sustainability across the district.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will transportation be available for students?

All Campuses: Transportation will be provided for all students residing more than 2 miles from the campus or for those who encounter hazardous traffic conditions or areas presenting a high risk of violence within two miles of the school campus.

Central Fine Arts Academy: Transportation will be provided for all in-district students, except those who live within two miles of the school.

Will transportation plans be finalized before the 2026-27 school year?

If the Board approves the closure of Alexander Elementary at the April 20 meeting, what options will be available for those students?

If the Merrifield building will house both PACE and Summit, where will the current Merrifield Elementary students & staff be reassigned?

Who is the new principal at Brandenburg Elementary?

Will we be able to tour our new campus?

Yes. Brandenburg Elementary, Central Fine Arts Academy, and Smith Early Learning Academy are currently under construction and not yet available for tours. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for all three campuses are scheduled for July, and tours will be offered at that time. Tours are also available at Daniel Elementary School upon request. Please contact the campus directly to schedule.

When are the ribbon cuttings?

The ribbon cutting schedule is as follows, with all events beginning at 9:00 a.m.:

July 27, 2026 – Central Fine Arts Academy July 28, 2026 – DHS CTE Addition July 29, 2026 – Smith Early Learning Academy

Please note: There will not be a ribbon cutting for Brandenburg Elementary School. The community will be notified once the campus is open and ready for tours.

Will Alexander PTA transition to Brandenburg?

As we transition Alexander students to Brandenburg, we are also working closely with both school communities to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for families. At this time, the Alexander PTA will not automatically transfer as a formal organization to Brandenburg. However, we are encouraging strong collaboration between the two communities so that Alexander families have meaningful opportunities to get involved and feel connected right away. Our goal is to honor the spirit of the Alexander PTA while also strengthening the existing Brandenburg PTA to support all students moving forward.

Will Smith Early Learning Academy & Brandenburg Elementary offer a bilingual program?

Can students join the bilingual program if they are not currently enrolled in one?

If a student is not currently enrolled in a bilingual program, they must first meet eligibility criteria through a language assessment in order to participate. For students who do not qualify, there may still be an opportunity to join the bilingual classroom as a visitor, based on space and availability. Please contact your campus counselor for more information.

Will the Central Fine Arts Academy application reopen after closing on March 30?

Campus Reconfiguration

Phase 2 focuses on repurposing select campuses to better align facilities with student needs and district priorities. This includes expanding early learning opportunities, strengthening specialized instructional programs, and consolidating services to improve access and efficiency. These changes are designed to support student success while minimizing transitions and maximizing the use of district resources.

District Rezoning

Attendance boundaries will be adjusted to support updated campus configurations and establish clear, sustainable feeder patterns to Duncanville High School. Rezoning in Phase 2 helps balance enrollment, improve long-term planning, and ensure students are served in facilities aligned to their instructional pathways.

Campus Renovations

Targeted renovations will prepare campuses for their new or expanded purposes in Phase 2. Facility enhancements will ensure learning spaces are safe, modern, and aligned with specialized programming, early learning, and student support services. These improvements are supported through the 2023 Bond and are essential to readiness for the 2026–2027 school year.
