The Duncanville Band Program is one of the premier programs in the state of Texas. The middle schools consistently earn superior ratings at UIL contest and festivals along with earning recognition in the Texas State Honor Band Contest and the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Competition. The DHS Band’s winning tradition extends across four decades earning recognition in the most prestigious accolades. The most recent honor is being the 2019 Exemplary High School Band for Texas.

AN INVITATION TO JOIN BAND FROM OUR DUNCANVILLE ISD DIRECTOR OF BANDS...

Dear Fifth Grade Parents/Guardians:

Your child has recently been tested and evaluated for participation in the Duncanville ISD Band Program. A musical progress survey was given to all 5th graders to help determine each student’s current achievement level in music.

Please fill out and submit the beginner band enrollment form in order to sign up your child for band next year. Students who submit this form will be interviewed and evaluated by a director to select an appropriate instrument. 6th grade is the only grade in which we offer beginner band.

We hope that you will consider this opportunity carefully and read this information. Band provides many experiences that help to instill self discipline , cooperation and teamwork for all students involved. Participation in a performing art, such as band, has been recognized by the College Board as one of the key factors in promoting achievement geared toward college entrance.

BEGINNER BAND ENROLLMENT FORM

I want to sign up for band, but I don’t know how to play an instrument. Can I be in band?

Most beginners have never played a wind or percussion instrument before. Beginning band is designed to teach you everything you need to know to play an instrument and be in a performing band.

There are many things I want to do. Can I be in band and other school activities?

Band kids are involved kids. We encourage our students to do a variety of activities. Since the majority of learning in band occurs during the school day in 6th grade, conflicts rarely arise.

What instruments are available?

Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion.
