Each month, Duncanville ISD honors a student, staff member and teacher who go above and beyond. They are chosen from nominations submitted by coworkers, classmates or community members. These individuals reflect the excellence and pride of our district and they are Made with Pride in Duncanville.
Student
Alaysia Rhodes is a sixth-grader at Brandenburg Intermediate. Alaysia's nomination came from her principal Tamra Thompson, and teachers, Monica Cox and Christi Collins. Although Alaysia is a new student, she has quickly made an impact and become involved with her campus. She is a PAWS- Positive Attitude, Act Responsibly, Wise Choices, and Stay Focused helper, and is on the media and robotics team. Additionally, she serves as a volunteer math tutor for her school’s FAST-Functional Academic Skills Training, Learning Environment, where she encourages her fellow students to achieve their best.
Not only do students and staff see Alaysia shine, but campus visitors have also had the opportunity. During the "One Great Day of Reading" event at her campus, she volunteered to escort visitors on campus. Each visitor remarked about her politeness and her engaging conversation.
Alaysia is an honor roll student and on track to be a top graduate once she attends Duncanville HS. “Alaysia is an advocate for others," said campus counselor Farrah Woods. “She has a caring heart, and is always willing to help others.”
Teacher
Myronda Mays is an English/Language Arts and Reading teacher at Kennemer STEAM Academy. Her nomination came from her colleague, STEAM Academy teacher Eika Johnson. “She is the best teammate,” Johnson said. “She makes everyone feel special by remembering birthdays and pushing others to ‘level up.’” Mays is an amazing, creative, innovative, and dedicated ELAR teacher. She inspires a love of learning and provides a foundation of excellence for sixth-graders. Mays creates exciting and interactive educational opportunities for her students. Mays is known to dress up as characters from books for her lessons. Mays goes the lengths to reach and teach her students.
Staff
Tanisha Wilbon is a custodian at Duncanville High School. Her nomination comes from Duncanville High School art teacher Leigh Harrison. Wilbon cleaned Harrison’s classroom this 2021-2022 school year. Harrison noticed Wilbon’s hard work in making sure school surfaces were clean for students' safety. According to Harrison, despite other possible opportunities Wilbon is committed to DHS student body. “She puts her whole heart into the job even though she can work somewhere else for more money,” Harrison said. “She chooses to stay and work for the students.”
Wilbon is dedicated to having clean and safe learning spaces for the campus' student body. With an amazing spirit and attitude, Wilbon embodies the Pride of Duncanville because of the pride she shows in her work.
