Each month, Duncanville ISD honors a student, staff member and teacher who go above and beyond. They are chosen from nominations submitted by coworkers, classmates or community members. These individuals reflect the excellence and pride of our district and they are Made with Pride in Duncanville.
When referring to 8th-grader London Lewis-Lavender, Byrd Middle School Counselor David Marshall uses the adjectives kind, quick but efficient, and competent. London is not just one of Mr. Marshall's students as a school counselor, but London is his aide in the front office. According to Mr. Marshall, London counters the stereotypical ideas
of teens. London stands apart because of his exceptional attitude. Daily London is eager to perform asked tasks and is polite while receiving instructions. But of all these great attributes London exhibits, it was the way he treated a new student at Byrd that caught Mr. Marshall's attention. Marshall asked London to show a new student around the school. According to his counselor, London introduced himself to the new student with a friendly and warm tone and began his tour by giving the student details about the school. What new student wouldn’t like to be shown the ropes by an approachable fellow student? This act of thoughtfulness caused Mr. Marshall to nominate London for Made with Pride. London is an example of a leader in our student body.
3rd-grade teacher Henrietta Harris' influence is felt throughout the walls of the Alexander Elementary school. If you ask Alexander’s Counselor Tabitha Powell, Ms. Harris pushes past her basic requirements as a teacher. Ms. Harris works to ensure meeting the complete needs of each of her students. Ms. Powell, who submitted Ms. Harris’ nomination says
Harris instructs her students in such a loving and caring way that students want to do their best. This type of teaching is an asset to our Duncanville ISD community. It's that helpful and loving energy that Powell says helps improve the overall climate of Alexander and could aid any of our district's school environments. She is willing to collaborate with parents, principals, counselors, staff, and fellow teachers to ensure the educational success of all students. Ms. Harris’ excellence impacts the entire district.
Tiffany Wilkerson, Duncanville High School's College, Career and Military Readiness Coordinator was chosen because she is passionate about her work and daily positive attitude. According to Ms. Wilkerson’s supervisor Shalonatae Payne, Ms. Wilkerson has raised the standards in her role. Ms. Wilkerson ensures activities or events she plans and manages are done excellently and are memorable. According to Ms. Payne, Ms. Wilkerson worked to gain partnerships with
institutions of Higher Education, the business sector, and community members to enlarge senior events. She enlarged the district's yearly College Fair and Academic Decision Day. Ms. Wilkerson also empresses the importance of completing FASFA/TAFSA to Duncanville High students, aiding them in post-high school success. Many of Ms. Wilkerson’s evenings and Saturdays are spent providing workshops and informational seminars to assist students and parents in gaining knowledge of postsecondary choices and opportunities. It is for all of these reasons that Ms. Payne nominated Ms. Wilkerson. Her tenacity, determination, and gift of compassion make her an integral asset to our team and district.
