Made With Pride February 2023
Each month, Duncanville ISD honors a student, staff member, and teacher who go above and beyond. They are chosen from nominations submitted by coworkers, classmates, or community members. These individuals reflect the excellence and pride of our district, and they are Made with Pride in Duncanville.
Teacher
Mary Mercer is a third-grade teacher at Central Elementary school. According to her students and fellow teachers Ms. Mercer is a very loving educator. Her colleague Jamie Boldt says Ms. Mercer loves each of her students as if they were her own child. Boldt, the person who nominated Ms. Mercer, explains that she shows her love for students in the way she is concerned for how they are grasping and retaining information and lessons. Ms. Mercer is always interested in what is best for each student, going beyond teaching a cookie-cutter curriculum but leaning in to help the individual student. Ms.Mercer's dedication for her students has made Mary Mercer February’s Made with Pride.
Staff
Ricky Thomas is the Security Coordinator for Duncanville ISD’s Police Department. Mr. Ricky has been in the district for over twenty years. Even though the phrase “above and beyond” is overused, according to Thomas’ colleagues, it isn’t sufficient to describe Mr.Ricky. Mr. Ricky was nominated by co-worker by Vicki Mercado and Chief of Duncanville ISD Police Mitchell Lambert, who admired Ricky's work ethic. Mr. Ricky is at campus’ most of the time before the work hours start and stays waypast most people’s bedtime working to ensure buildings are safe, in place to meet media or contractors. Even events he is not required to work, Ricky is there ensuring everything is going well and in order. It’s this dedication that caused Ricky to be chosen for Made with Pride.
