Duncanville ISD’s Counseling Department is doing the work of developing and implementing a systemic Social and Emotional Learning program for our scholars. Counselors work with scholars on strategies to develop the 5 SEL competencies which are Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
The Duncanville ISD Counseling Department provides guidance curriculum through Second Step for K-8 students as well as a locally developed curriculum for all students throughout the school year.
Scholars receive Academic Advising and Individual Planning from counselors throughout the school year. Counselors work with scholars to advise on selecting courses for the upcoming school year as well as postsecondary planning.
Counselors provide Responsive Services to scholars experiencing mental health concerns as well as emergencies. Counselors provide individual counseling to scholars, group counseling, crisis and grief counseling.
Our school social workers work hard to ensure the basic and mental health needs of our scholars and families are met. They work closely with counselors and administrators to learn of scholar and family needs, and reach out to community partners to secure resources for scholars and their families.
