Request for Digital Files

Intellectual property, or IP, consists of all pieces of work that District employees have thought of or have created. An idea, insight, or inspiration does not become intellectual property until it is fixed in some tangible form of expression. Once fixed, however, intellectual property may be protected by patent, copyright, or trademark laws.

Pursuant to the Employee Handbook and District policy, each employee has agreed that all copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property rights shall remain with the District at all times, upon commencing employment. CY (Local).

Intellectual property includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Patents
  • Copyrights
  • Works (notes, lessons, textbooks, instructional materials, assignments, research materials etc.)
  • Creative Works
  • Software
  • Trademarks
  • Data

All materials, content, and forms created by an employee in the course or scope of his or her employment, during District time or using district equipment and materials are the intellectual property of Duncanville ISD and may not be copied, reproduced, distributed or displayed with Duncanville ISD's written permission. If written permission is granted, information may be used accompanied by an acknowledgement that Duncanville ISD is the source.

File Access for Exiting Employees

Exiting staff members will be provided with exiting documentation prior to exiting the district. As a part of the exit process, each employee must complete a Duncanville ISD Intellectual Property Intent Form. If the employee is requesting access to District Intellectual Property, it will be submitted to the Superintendent’s office for review and approval. Keep in mind that there are THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES for access. The exiting employee will be contacted via provided email as to the status of the request. If approved, the requestor will be granted access.

File Access for Former Employees

Once an employee is no longer employed by Duncanville ISD, he or she may request access to previously created content that is the property of the District. Digital files are available for request up to 30 days after the former employee’s exit date. This process will begin by completing a Request for Content for Former Employees Form. This will provide past employees with an opportunity request digital and/or paper content AFTER exiting employment in Duncanville ISD. The request will be submitted to the Superintendent’s office for review and approval. Keep in mind that THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES FOR ACCESS. The exiting employee will be contacted via provided email as to the status of the request. If approved, the requestor will be granted access.
