Custody and Legal Issues
Duncanville ISD is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. The district does not mediate or resolve custody disputes between parents or guardians. In the absence of a court order signed by a judge or other legally binding documentation, the district presumes that both parents share legal custody and have equal rights to make educational decisions on behalf of their child(ren).
If there are legal custody arrangements that impact school access or decision-making rights, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the school immediately and submit the appropriate legal documentation. A copy of the signed court order or legal document must be provided to both the campus principal and the school registrar via email.
Please note that educational guardianship granted during the school year ends at the conclusion of that academic year. A new Educational Guardianship form must be submitted and notarized by the district for the following school year.Special circumstances are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are managed through the Duncanville ISD Student Services Department.
