Is Your Student Military-Connected?
Identifying students as military-connected helps us provide the right support, connect families with resources, and ensure accurate reporting for state purposes.
Below are common ways a student may qualify as military-connected.
Pre-Kindergarten Eligibility – Military-Connected
A child may qualify for Pre-K under the military provision if the student is:
- A dependent of an active-duty member of the United States armed forces, including the state military forces or a reserve component, who has been ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
- The child of a member of the United States armed forces (including state military forces or a reserve component) who was injured or killed while serving on active duty.
Important:
Once a child qualifies and begins a Pre-K program under this provision, the student remains eligible even if the parent or guardian leaves the military or is no longer on active duty after the child starts Pre-K.
Military-Connected Students in Grades K–12
A student in grades K–12 may be identified as military-connected if they are the dependent of:
- An active-duty member of the United States armed forces;
- A current member of the Texas National Guard (Army, Air Guard, or State Guard);
- A current member of a reserve component of the United States armed forces;
- A former member of:
- The United States armed forces,
- The Texas National Guard (Army, Air Guard, or State Guard), or
- A reserve component of the United States armed forces; or
- A member of the United States armed forces or a reserve component who was killed in the line of duty.
If your child meets any of these criteria, please let the campus know during enrollment or at the start of each school year so we can ensure accurate coding and support.
Campus Support for Military-Connected Families
Each Duncanville ISD campus designates one staff member as the military liaison. This person helps:
- Welcome and support newly enrolled military-connected students and families;
- Assist with the transition between schools and districts;
- Connect families with campus and community resources;
- Help staff understand and respond to the unique needs of military-connected students.
If you are a military family enrolling or currently attending Duncanville ISD, you may ask the front office staff to connect you with the campus military liaison.
