Compulsory Attendance Law & Consequences
- Texas Law requires students 6–19 to attend school unless exempt.
- Prekindergarten & Kindergarten: If you voluntarily enroll your child in PK or kindergarten before age 6, all attendance laws apply to them as well.
- Court Referrals can be triggered by 10+ unexcused absences in 6 months.
- Below 90% triggers possible credit denial; below 75% requires an Attendance Appeal.
Tips to Improve Attendance
- Schedule appointments outside school hours.
- Notify the attendance office promptly if your child is ill.
- Arrive on time every day.
- Encourage consistent bedtime routines.
- Ask for help from counselors/teachers if attendance is an issue.
