Mrs. Lastenia Herrera Hooker
Hola! My name is Lastenia Herrera -Hooker. I was born on the Archipelago of Saint Andrew, Old Providence and Saint Katherine in the Caribbean. These islands politically belong to Colombia, South America. Along with my husband and three children, we immigrated to the US in 1991. In 1995, we became citizens of the United States of America.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Education from The University of New Mexico. I have also obtained my Masters in Spanish at the Middlebury Language Schools in Vermont.
I have taught Spanish for 25 years. I’m starting my ninth year at Duncanville High School. I have taught all levels of Spanish from level one up to level 5 AP Spanish Literature. I’m now teaching Regular Spanish I, Spanish II Dual Credit at Duncanville High School.
I’m certified in Modern and Classical Language as well as ESL. I’m also the DHS Spanish Club Sponsor, the coordinator for the National Spanish Exam at DHS.
Outside of school, I’m an AP Spanish Language Reader for The College Board and presently I’m the president of The American Association of Spanish and Portuguese-Lone Star Chapter, as well as the Moderator for an International Foundation for disadvantaged students.
On the other hand, I enjoy traveling. I have visited Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, France and England. I lived in Panama, Central America, for 10 years.
I celebrate multiculturalism!
