Tyron Shaw

Mr. Shaw, a native Oklahoman, is in his sixteenth year of teaching Music Education.  He is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Duncanville High School. Mr. Shaw graduated from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1999 and received his Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas in May 2014. 


Before making the transition to Texas, Mr. Shaw held the position as the director of Choral of Activities four years in Bakersfield, California at Highland High School.  Under Mr. Shaw’s direction, his choirs have traveled to many destinations including Honolulu, Hawaii, New York City, Washington D.C and Toronto Canada.


The DHS Mixed Chorus has been selected by the Foundation for Music Education as a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence/National Choral Honors Project.  The A Cappella Men’s Choir was selected as a Commended Winner in the open category in the Mark of Excellence/National Choral Honors project.  As head director in Duncanville, Mr. Shaw’s choirs have consistently received Sweepstakes every year in UIL competition. In March, 2012, the Duncanville High School Men’s A Cappella Choir was named an Honor Choir and performed at the Southwest American Choral Director’s Association Convention held in Dallas.  He was also named Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Duncanville Independent School District for 2011-2012.


In addition to the success of his choirs, Mr. Shaw is a highly sought clinician and adjudicator that have traveled throughout the country working as a motivational speaker to students and educational professionals. He works carelessly with school administrative personnel as an innovator promoter of solid staff development learning opportunities and goal-setting techniques.
