Shawnte A. Crossland
My Name is Shawnte Crossland and I am an inclusion teacher for Geometry. I attended a couple colleges playing softball and finished up my undergrad degree at New Mexico State University. When I started teaching, I did not think this was going to be my career path. My plan was to open up a Bahama Bucks and enjoy the sno-cone life! When this did not pan out, I was offered a coaching position in my hometown Hobbs, New Mexico. This meant I was going to be a teacher, a fourth grade teacher to be exact.
My first year of teaching changed my life! My students made such an impact on me, I fell in love with teaching. I had the privilege of teaching fourth grade for four years. I was moved over to the Freshman Academy teaching PE and working with At-Risk students. This was great because I got to see all of my former students for a second time around. I continued teaching and coaching there for six more years. In 2018 I moved to Red Oak, Texas.
I taught and coached for a year in Corsicana. Teaching in Corsicana allowed me to expand my career by becoming a Special Education Inclusion teacher. Not only did this challenge me professionally, but it also allowed me to work with students in a core subject again.
The best part of teaching is helping students understand their worth and potential.
