Superintendent’s Report

Teaching and Learning Center Ribbon Cutting

Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith provides information about recent events in the school district. He opened his report this month by discussing the Superintendent Roundtable meeting, where he regularly meets with staff members, parents, and community members to provide an update and gather feedback from various stakeholders. The group learned about district funding, budget, the impact of the pandemic, accomplishments, and future initiatives on the calendar. Dr. Smith expressed that he appreciates the collaboration with the collective group and the insight they provide.

The Duncanville ISD Teaching and Learning Center officially opened last week following a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the building renovation. The school board approved the renovation project in January 2000, the timing of which made it possible for the project to come in under budget as there has been a nationwide rise in material costs over the past two years. Dr. Smith expressed his pride that the project was completed under budget, saving the school district approximately $260,000. The Curriculum and Instruction Department will work out of the Teaching and Learning Center, where the focus will be about developing teachers so they can provide their best to students.

Dr. Smith also reported that 170 Duncanville High School students graduated from Dallas College last week with their associate degree or industry certification. This accomplishment helps students to transition beyond high school and into their future careers.
