District Update: Paid Bereavement Leave

Dear Duncanville ISD Staff,

I am pleased to inform you that the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees has approved a new bereavement leave policy during the Board Meeting held on July 15, 2024. This policy is intended to offer support and time off to our valued staff members who experience the loss of an immediate family member.

Bereavement Leave Policy Details:

  • Leave Allowance- You will be granted up to three days of bereavement leave without loss of pay for the death of an immediate family member.
     
  • Definition of Immediate Family- Immediate family is defined as outlined in Board Policy DEC (LOCAL).
     
  • Documentation Requirement- Documentation, such as an obituary or funeral program, is required and must be submitted within 15 days following the death of an immediate family member for approval. Please contact the HR Department for further details.
     
  • Usage of Leave- Bereavement leave must be utilized within 30 days of the death of an immediate family member.

 

How to Apply for Bereavement Leave:

  1. Notify Your Supervisor- Please inform your supervisor about your need for bereavement leave as soon as possible.
     
  2. Submit a Leave Request and Documentation- Complete and submit a bereavement leave request form along with the required documentation to leave@duncanvilleisd.org within 15 days following the death of an immediate family member.

We understand that coping with the loss of a family member is a challenging time, and we sincerely hope that this policy provides some measure of support and relief during such difficult circumstances.
