Duncanville High School Choir Shines at All-Region Auditions
Updated

17 Duncanville High School Choir students were selected for Texas Music Education Associations, TEMA's prestigious choirs. Eight students were selected for the prestigious All-Region Mixed Choir, nine earned spots in the District Choir, and three were chosen for the Honor Choir.

Students competed against students from other districts, such as Richardson, Highland Park, Lake Highlands, Irving, and others, to gain membership in this prestigious choir.

To become competition-ready, students had to put in hours of preparation. "Students began preparing for the contest over the summer by attending All-State Camps, extra weekends, and fall break rehearsals, while also practicing on their own," explained Choir Director Coretta Smith-Gibson. According to Smith-Gibson, her students were full of emotions after being selected, ranging from surprised to grateful to even flabbergasted. The most important emotion was accomplished.

"As Director of Choral Activities for Duncanville High School, I am extremely proud of all the choir students that auditioned and I am so excited to see the continued tradition of excellence."

The next step for the 8 choir students who have qualified for the Pre-Area auditions is to be selected at the November 19th auditions at Highland Park High School. Prep to succeed during those auditions are weekly voice lessons, weekend rehearsals, and daily individual practice. The students who place in the top five chairs will go to the final round next year at Dallas Baptist University.
