The lone superintendent finalist, Dr. T. Lamar Goree, was approved by the board and subsequently signed his contract during a special school board meeting. After being approved by the board, Dr. Goree spoke to the crowded boardroom and thanked his family, mentors, friends, and former colleagues for who came to support him during such a momentous occasion. He also thanked the school board for the vote of confidence. Following Dr. Goree signing his contract, he was celebrated by family and friends and welcomed by Duncanville staff during a reception.
