Superintendent’s Report
During the school board meeting, Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith provided his regular report of recent district events. He opened his report by bringing awareness to the legislative bills that are a priority to the district. Legislators are still in the process of organizing leadership and establishing committees.
The Senate has set its committees, with Senator Creighton leading the Education Committee and Senator Huffman chairing the finance committee. The senator for the district where Duncanville ISD resides, Senator Royce West, was in both committees.
#DvilleALLIn
At the recent TASA Midwinter conference, Dr. Smith attended the Raise Your Hand Texas convening of Superintendents, where three North Texas Legislators visited with them and informed the group about some of the state legislative bills that should have their focus and watchful eye. Dr. Smith also shared that a few of his cabinet members, Dr. Goodman, Dr. Nix, and Dr. Jordan did an excellent job sharing how the district is improving outcomes for students in a standing-room-only session.
Bronze Medalist NCA Competition and 1st Place Special Olympics Basketball
Dr. Smith noted his pride over the Sparklers' placing 3rd in their first-ever National Cheer Association Special Olympics competition. He thanked the students, their parents, and their sponsors for a great ending and job. The Sparklers are under the leadership of Ms. Elizabeth Thompson.
He also noted his pride over the 1st place win at the Special Olympics Basketball tournament. Dr. Smith Congratulationed the students and thanked parents and staff for making this possible. This team is under the leadership of Mr. James Hicks.
Demonstration District
Duncanville ISD is one of two districts selected as “Dr. Thomas Randle Demonstration Districts”. This selection was based on the district's track record of success for at-risk student achievement, closing the achievement gap, and demonstrating school improvement across the district. As a result, members of the district's leadership team will share their journey of school improvement during a special session at the 2023 Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) annual conference.
My Future. My Choice.
Dr. Smith reminded everyone that the My Future, My Choice Showcase was the following week on February 25th. The showcase is an opportunity to learn about free and tuition-based PK programs, elementary and middle school choice options, and High school pathways like Architectural design, Automotive technology, Education, and STEM.
