Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith provided a report to the Board of Trustees beginning with the end-of-school technology returns for the 175 seniors who were loaned laptops during Learning At Home. Summer meals are continuing through July 31. Families are able to pick up meals for the week every Tuesday. So far, more than 7,000 meals have been distributed. Over a 10-week period from mid-March through the end of the school year, more than 33,000 meals were served to children through our Grab-and-Go Program.

Dr. Smith summarized the candlelight vigil on June 8 at Armstrong Park in Duncanville in memory of George Floyd, who has been the catalyst for the various rallies, protests and broader movement for racial equality. Mayor Barry Gordon, Senator Royce West and Representative Yvonne Davis were all in attendance.

A soft reopening for the district is planned for July 6. The district is evaluating the resources and data that is being collected from staff to determine what the reopening will look like.
