District’s ‘Made with Pride in Duncanville’ Honorees Announced for November

Made with Pride - November 2021

Each month, Duncanville ISD honors a student, staff member and teacher who go above and beyond. They are chosen from nominations submitted by coworkers, classmates or community members. These individuals reflect the excellence and pride of our district and they are “Made with Pride in Duncanville.”

The November 2021 honorees include Technology Department Instructional Technology Coordinators Devin Hanes and Jamie Brown, DHS Collegiate Academy senior Jordan Barrow and Duncanville High School teacher Shaunna Kile.

Superintendent’s Report

Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith opened his school board meeting report sharing his experience reading to Brandenburg Intermediate Students for the “One Great Day of Reading.” Volunteers, parents and other community partners celebrated reading with students at schools across the district.

When Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath made a special stop in Duncanville ISD a few weeks ago, he visited the Charles Acton Leadership Academy. The district’s first elementary school choice program was the perfect place to showcase the direction Duncanville ISD is heading. Student leaders greeted Commissioner Morath and Principal Jessica Linwood led the campus tour. Here is a short video that provides a peek into the school visit.

This past weekend (Saturday, Nov. 13) we celebrated basketball legend Coach Phil McNeely at the first ever Phil McNeely Classic. Phil was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award and received plenty of well-deserved recognition. The most powerful thing to see was all of the love so many of his former players have for he and his family. This video highlights the celebratory weekend.

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, the majority of our district employees will receive a one-time payment of $2,500. To qualify, employees must be eligible for Texas Retirement System (TRS) benefits, and they must have been employed in the district as of Sept. 1, 2021. Dr. Smith thanked the school board has been very generous, while also remaining fiscally responsible.
