Mitchell Lambert Sworn in as Duncanville ISD Chief of Police
The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to hire Mitchell Lambert as the Chief of Police during the August Board meeting. With over twelve years of experience in law enforcement and the last five years in Duncanville ISD, Chief Lambert is well known for consistently demonstrating his ability to lead with professionalism, accountability, and impeccable communication.
Superintendent’s Report
Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith began his report by announcing that Bronson Hooper, DHS Senior, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Since eighth grade, Hooper has been a Superintendent Scholar, an in-distinct program that recognizes the top performing students.
Created in 2002, the H E B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Through this program, H E B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same. Duncanville ISD has been identified as an Outstanding District and Nominated for the 2023 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award.
Duncanville ISD has a strong partnership with South Toyota, and we are elated they have been an integral part of getting our school year off to a wonderful start through their donations to Convocation 2022. Additionally, they have ensured that every campus Teacher of the Year has a designated parking space at their campus and $100 for classroom supplies.
Grammy Museum Signature Schools Award Winning Choir
Duncanville ISD is excited to have Mr. Paul Doucet as the new Director of Choral activities at Duncanville High School. Additionally, he serves as the secondary choral coordinator for the entire district. He is the Texas Music Educators Association President for our region and the Texas Music Educators Association All State Mixed Choir Coordinator. His resume is impressive, and he has inherited a top tier program that is saturated with extremely talented students. Duncanville High School Choir is a Grammy Museum Signature Schools Awardee. This is a financial grant intended to support choral programs. We are one of 21 schools being recognized this year.
Award Winning Boys Track Team
Mr. Clayton Brookins is the head coach for Boys Track and Field. Mr. Brookins joined the Duncanville ISD family in July 2021 and has already led us to the top! With Brookins at the helm, we have five school records set. We are District Team Champions, Regional Team Champions, and we had the highest point total for a state runner-up team in UIL 6A history. Coach Brookins was named National Coach of the Year and Pierre Goree was named Texas' Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of Year. Additionally, eight student-athletes, who were affiliated with track & field, signed scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers in college. The 2021-2022 Duncanville Boys’ T&F team ranks as one of the best teams in Texas UIL Track & Field history.
Award Winning Girls Track Team
Under the leadership of Ms. Yvette Green, the Girls Track & Field team had an outstanding “run” to state this past season!! They won district by more than 50pts with only 15 girls and had at least one top 3 finisher in 14 of the 17 events.
The team made an equally strong appearance at the Area Track & Field Meet and left as Area Champions!
The team proved to have stamina by continue their championship run at Regionals. The team left the meet as Champions and qualified for the State Meet in the 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay, and an individual qualifier in the 200m.
Action Items
The Board of Trustees approved the naming of the Reed Middle School Gymnasium Court in honor of former Pantherette, long-time teacher and coach, Ms. Sharon Smith. A host of family and friends were present. Ms. Marilyn Smith submitted the recommendation and Dr. Laws provided brief remarks of gratitude on behalf of Sharon’s colleagues, friends, and family.
The Board of Trustees also approved that the Library at Duncanville High School will be named in honor of Ms. Flo Judd, DHS Associate Principal. Ms. Judd was recently recognized for 45 years of service in Duncanville ISD.
