Five Collegiate High School students competed in the International Distributive Education Clubs of America, also known as DECA, after advancing at the District and State level. Students Giselle Moreno, Toan Nguyen, Samantha Lopez, Preston Lee, and Germany Hererra represented Duncanville ISD in Anaheim, California.
“The specific, creative, and strenuous process of competing at district, advancing to state, being a state finalist, then advancing to International was an unforgettable experience with a lot of hard work,” explains Preston. “Once we got to ICDC, Germany and I were so intrigued by how much further we could advance in the competition.
Preston and Germany both placed 15th in the finalist round and earned medals, which Preston is very proud of. "We had no clue that would result in advancing to International Finals. A very proud moment. I’m so thankful for this experience, one that was completely unforgettable.”
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. At this conference, more than 23,000 high school students, Experienced several days of DECA excitement. “I started this organization [at DHS], two years ago, I didn’t fully understand the magnitude of how far the program and its resources extended to,” said Preston.
