Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus held its CTE National Signing Day Thursday, April 20th, with
41 Duncanville ISD students making the trip over to celebrate and take part in committing to technical education and career paths. The event, which began in 2014 at Washburn University Institute of Technology, honors students who have chosen a technical career and emphasizes the importance of their career choice.
National CTE Signing Day is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating, and acknowledging high school CTE students who choose to commit in college to technical education pathways or enter directly into the workforce utilizing an industry-based certification earned in high school. It is an opportunity for educators, industry partners, and the community to come together and celebrate the importance of technical education and the value of the students who pursue it.
“The signing day ceremony is designed to celebrate technical education in the same way as we value athletes who commit to play a college sport,” said Jeff Nielson, Event Coordinator for the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3). “By signing new recruits, we are telling them that a place has been reserved for them and that they are valued. Technical education will prepare them for a strong career, build families, sustain communities, and grow a highly skilled workforce.”
“The continued partnership we have established with Dallas College through our various programs (Dallas County Promise, Level-I and II certifications, Dual Credit, P-TECH, The Collegiate Academy) lead our students to the opportunity of choosing to study in varying high quality college degree programs at minimal to no cost, receive valuable workforce development training, and community leadership learning opportunities,” said Shalontae Payne, Director of CTE and CCMR for Duncanville ISD. “Our students can transfer the skills from the trades and other CTE-related careers and secure great jobs and careers that will lead them to future success that will also support the needs of our local communities by providing valuable service,” Payne continued. “We are definitely- Proud Panthers on the Prowl to Post-Secondary Readiness!”
“I am appreciative of this life-changing experience that Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus has provided to our students in Duncanville ISD,” said Tiffany Wilkerson, CCMR Coordinator for Duncanville ISD. “Cedar Valley Campus President Dr. Seabrooks and his team rolled out the red carpet to ensure that our students know that Cedar Valley will not only provide educational opportunities but that they truly care and will walk side-by-side on their pathway to success.”
