Nine Duncanville High Schools band and choir students performed at the Texas All-State competition in San Antonio Saturday, February 11th at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Texas Music Educators Association also known as TMEA sponsored the Texas All-State competition.
DHS Band students that competed: Jared Balderas in bass clarinet 7th in the State, Anry Ramirez-Garcia in trumpet who placed 4th in the state in his second appearance, and Isaac Nuño in baritone saxophone, 8th in the State.
There are three choirs that students can be selected for in All-State. DHS Choir students that were chosen: Lyric Lyons, Kelicia Zapata, Marisol Hernandez in the treble choir, Jefferey Berry and Zion Fuqua in the large school mixed choir, and Evan Beaty in Tenor Bass Choir.
Each student was chosen for this honor through a competitive process of auditions held across the state at the District, Region, and Area levels. Out of 70,000 students who auditioned, the nine DHS students competing were among only 1,875 selected to perform in one of 18 ensembles.
All three students are interested in receiving a music education degree through the aid of the TMEA and pursuing a career in music education post-college.
