District Legend Throws First Pitch at Newly-Renovated Softball Stadium

Chrietzberg Throws First Pitch

The weather was perfect as former Duncanville High School principal and district administrator Mike Chrietzberg threw out the first pitch at the softball team’s home opening game.

In 2020, the district upgraded the turf at its baseball and softball fields and named the softball field in Mr. Chrietzberg’s honor to recognize his 42 years of service to the district. Because it rained on the day of the event last year, the ceremonial first pitch was postponed.

Last Tuesday, Chrietzberg’s family, friends and former coworkers gathered to celebrate him and the updated stadium that now bears his name.

“He’s just a good guy. And for him to spend all of his years in education in Duncanville, that’s just astounding,” said Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees Vice-President Janice Savage-Martin.

Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith said it’s clear that Mr. Chrietzberg truly loves the school district and our community.

“He dedicated a long, long career here, served as the high school principal and touched so many lives,” Dr. Smith said before the ceremony.

Mr. Chrietzberg spent 17 of his years in Duncanville ISD as principal of Duncanville High School. He remarked that in his entire career, those years hold his fondest memories.

“One of the reasons you give of yourself to others is so that you can make their lives better. I hope that in seeing my name on this field for all those individuals I had the opportunity to work with over the years that it brings back good memories,” Mike Chrietzberg.
