Former Pantherette Named Assistant Athletic Director

Kenya Landers

Former Pantherette Kenya Landers returns to her hometown prepared to support scholar athletes as Duncanville ISD’s Assistant Athletic Director. The position combines her love for education and sports and reunites Mrs. Landers with her family.

During her years as a Duncanville Pantherette, Mrs. Landers’ team won the State Championship in 1997 and had a record of 40 and 0.

“Duncanville ISD is what really laid the foundation for me as far as discipline, education and of course athletically,” Mrs. Landers said.  “More importantly, it helped me be a better person. Having the opportunity to be a professional athlete was rewarding, but nothing is as exciting as coming back to serve my community.”

Mrs. Landers brings experience to the role, as she was previously the assistant athletic director in Corsicana ISD. Prior to that she held roles of assistant principal, teacher and head basketball coach and an adjunct professor position at Navarro College.

Prior to her transition to K-12 education, Mrs. Landers spent two years as an assistant coach for Louisiana State University’s women’s basketball team and three seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State where she was instrumental in helping the Cowgirls reach the NCAA tournament in 2007 and 2008.

Mrs. Landers began her collegiate career playing at Trinity Valley College where she led the team to the 1999 Junior College Athletic Association National Championship. After her sophomore year, Mrs. Landers transferred to the University of Texas at Austin in 2002. She led the team in assists in both her junior and senior years and in 2002 and helped UT reach the Sweet 16.

Mrs. Landers earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas. She earned a Master of Science in Education from the University of Phoenix and she holds a principal certification.

She is married to Michael Landers, athletic director at Navarro College. The couple has two daughters, Michaela (11) and Larkyn (9).
