Alexis Walker’s role as fairy godmother in Duncanville High School’s rendition of “Cinderella: Enchanted Edition” allowed her to grant wishes. Alexis just had a dream come true for a musical theater student; she has been nominated for a Dallas Summer Musicals award for Best Featured Performer.

“I honestly was so shocked,” Alexis said. “I enjoyed it, but I didn’t know it was going to go that far.”

“I am so excited for Alexis and her nomination as she is very deserving,” said lead theatre arts instructor Rebekah Lowery.

Ms. Lowery launched Duncanville High School’s musical theatre program in 2017. This is the first year the Duncanville ISD theatre department has entered the Dallas Summer Musicals contest, and Alexis is one of eight nominees in her category. Winners will be announced at a ceremony May 14 at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

The top high school students will advance to the national Jimmy Awards where the grand prize for Best Actor and Best Actress is a week of professional training in New York for students.

No matter how the competition shakes out, Alexis knows her future is in the entertainment business.

“After college I would really want to work on getting my own entertainment company and starting up my own business of being a film producer,” Alexis said.

Her high school teacher believes she has the ability to make her dream come true.

“She is an extremely talented and dedicated performer,” Ms. Lowery said.
