Duncanville High School’s A Cappella Men’s Choir receives a top honor and national recognition for musical achievement. The ensemble, under the direction of Jesse Cannon II, was named a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence competition.
“This is a tremendous honor for an incredibly deserving and talented group of students,” said Head Choral Director Jesse Cannon II.
Duncanville’s choir was one of just six chosen for this honor given by The Foundation for Music Education, which received more than 200 entries in choral, orchestral, jazz, percussion ensemble and wind band performances from 38 states.
“The Duncanville High School A Cappella Men’s Choir is a wonderful example of musical achievement, and is a credit to your school district and community,” said Alan Hanna, Executive Director of The Foundation for Music Education.
The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school choirs, bands and orchestras. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners.
The A Cappella Men’s Choir was invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association’s annual conference last year. The recorded performance, titled ‘The Journey,’ is available here on YouTube as well as Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify.
